Nelly Cortez comes from a 4th generation mariachi family and her love for music and training came at a young age. Nelly began her professional career right after high school by joining an all-female Los Angeles based professional mariachi group who traveled thorough the country.
After years of traveling and performing at venues all over the world, from the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) in Beijing, China, Nelly decided to continue her education at California State University, Los Angeles while also training for her private pilot license.
In 2012, Nelly and the co-creators of the band Trio Ellas received their first Latin Grammy nomination for best regional Mexican album. Not long after, Nelly graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Administration from CSULA and started a second career at the San Bernardino International Airport.
Nelly continues to perform as a professional musician and does recreational flying as a private pilot.
